Day -14: Long Cardio

Wait stop. I swear I was JUST on Day Negative 21. This is slightly unreal. You mean to tell me I invested my time and consideration into myself for 7 days??

Haha, well good!

So today I wanted to do the Low-Impact Cardio again but I got caught up in a couple of last minute errands that I had to do after work. One of which was picking up the DVD of me and my friend on Wheel of Fortune 15 years ago (!!!) my dear old Dad got it digitized for me and I was on cloud level 99 all night. So excited I couldn't even get to sleep!

All I did was walk about 2 miles on my way home and sort of just chill out. LOL @ "All i did".

Supplements:

  • Forgot to take my morning pills because I woke up really late and needed to run out the house
  • Culturelle Probiotic (at night!)
  • Magnesium
  • Calcium Gummies and Vitamin C Gummies (notice how I never forget to take these haha)
Diet:
Ok we need to talk because for lunch today I literally ate curly fries and that's it. I think this is because I didn't have a real breakfast in the morning and by the time it was time for me to do lunch i was like, uh, french fries whatever. I'm noticing a pattern and I'm going to do something about it.

Otherwise I ate Snow Crab Legs because I really wanted the butter - and notice, I didn't take my Iodine today so here we are. Man, I am learning as I go like a freaking boss!

Day -15: Rest Day

And it was on this day I realized that I've stuck to my guns and am really going for it.

I cracked my screen yesterday so I'm only going to be able to post struggle selfies from now until SUNDAY when I get it fixed.

Anyway, today I'm still really sore from walking around and up and down yesterday AND from the Arms stuff on Saturday so I feel good about not doing too much.

Supplements:
Vitamin C Gummies
Kelp supplement (because I'm often times Iron deficient and crave salt, which has iodine!)
New Chapter Women's Multi-Vitamin
Magnesium
Calcium

I didn't exactly eat much today, and I'd like to discuss why this is a problem. When you (or me, really because I can't speak for you) don't eat at all, your metabolism slows all the way down. And other stuff happens! And for me, I will pretty much starve myself all day and then binge at night. The worst time to binge!

So I'm notating that here so I know that it's not cool and I gotta cut that crap out, hehe :)

Day -16: Lower Body + Big Cardio

Today was a marathon day - well, it was a long day...

I sang two masses at the local Catholic Church, went to a day party for a second, visited my parents, and shot some cutscenes with a friend.

On the way home I was beating myself up because I didn't leave enough time to workout before bed.

Then I realized HOW incredibly active I was that day. At the church, there are these massive flights of stairs. I went up and down them around 5 times that day. By the 5th time, I wasn't so winded anymore!

I also danced for a good amount of time at the day party AND I walked a mile or two on top of all this.

So yes, today was a Lower Body day dang it!

Diet:
Bagel and Cream cheese with coffee (I know, I know)
Beans
And I drank, a BUNCH - but not too much
Fried Shrimp

Ok soo it wasn't a banner day for diet but I will get there!

Day - 17: Upper Body with weights (!)

Hey!

Something really cool happened today. I was sitting around being lazy because it was Negative infinity degrees outside and all of a sudden around 7pm my body actually WANTED to work out. OMG it hasn't even been that long and I'm slightly creating a habit. I think this experiment is working?

Anyway, I did about 10 minutes with really light weights and I was still pretty sore. I ended with a more Yoga style stretch which was pretty good and reminds me that I need to get serious about practicing again.

Diet today:
  • Flax Seed Granola Cereal with Cashew Milk
  • Bone Broth Soup
  • Blistered Shishito Peppers and Roasted Brussel Sprouts (but like too much)
  • A lot of water

Supplements today:
  • New Medicine Multi
  • Liquid Vitamin B-12
  • Gummy Vitamin C and Calcium
  • Magnesium

Day -18: Active Rest + Stretching

I went to the movies today and I did not eat a barrel of popcorn.

I repeat...

This is a big deal for me. Since I started thinking about wellness, I'm already making better choices. Slow and steady wins the race.

I still don't feel up to exercising again and I want to trust this instinct. My knees also kinda hurt.

I did a few stretches upon waking and before bed but that was the most I did.

Supplements today:
New Medicine Multi-Vitamin (morning)
Gummy Vitamin C (morning and evening)
Calcium/Magnesium (before bed)
Collagen Peptide Powder in my tea (before bed)

Day -19: Rest + diet

I thought that I would do an active rest day today. With Yoga and such. But I'm still pretty sore from yesterday. Not incredibly but enough to have me chill.

Plus it's a freezing cold and snowy day in NYC. I'm focusing more on what I'm eating and drinking.
  • I upped my water intake a ton
  • I ate a few square meals but uh, not square enough
  • I feel better than I did yesterday after the yo-yo dieting

I also focused on Supplements! Last year, and Internist discovered that I was low in every vitamin except vitamin C. So I upped the ante on what I took daily. But something I remember from that time is that I had to slowly add each.

Here's what I took today:
  • Women's Multi-Vitamin by New Medicine (this one doesn't have any casing so it's like, max power)
  • Vital Proteins Collagen Peptide Powder in my tea (I've been dying to see if this whole Collagen thing works)
  • Gummy Vitamin C (because I am a young child)
  • Calcium, Zinc, Magnesium (I take this at night to help me sleep)
  • Bone Broth Soup (packed with Collagen and other nutrients to help my doggone knees)

Day -20: Bodyweight Workout + Stretching

Well well well. Two days in a row. I have outdone myself if I do say so.

I ate WAY BETTER today which is another fun habit of mine. Yo-yo dieting. Oh man it is thee worst. I had some magnificent Greek Yogurt topped with honey, granola, and apple slices. I drank so much water! Had this incredible heart healthy salad from sweetgreen.

By around 3pm, I was feeling like I could die. Too much Kale, too much water too fast, not enough caffeine and empty carbs. And USUALLY this is when I quit and go eat french fries.

But today I was like, nope we can do this. I just made the most delicious Thai Curry Bone Broth and Noodle soup but I drank it so fast that I don't have a photo. I will make it for an after workout treat again tomorrow. Maybe I'll even try to write down a recipe for you?

As for my workouts, I did a little more than I did yesterday. Mainly because I went to bed sore and work up with no energy - I think it's because:
a. I haven't worked out in like 40 days
b. I only got 6 hours of sleep because the endorphins were high and I was scrolling through FB looking for WHO KNOWS WHAT REALLY
c. Adding a third bullet point here so I don't look like a slacker

So, I started with the same 10 minute warm up, this Bodyweight Workout, and ended with this stretch series which really helped me cool alllll the way down.

Tomorrow is a rest day and I can't believe I did two days in a row.

Day -21: Low Impact Cardio

The funny thing is that I've started and stopped a zillion times. And I've tried it all really. Fad diets, going cold turkey, personal trainers, you name it. I have failed learned from each of the times I started and stopped and NOW I think I have it figured out.

Hi! I'm La Toya and I've been tipping the scale since I stepped out of grad school. For a variety of reasons, I've been precisely the same weight for years now. As I got older, I noticed that it wasn't as easy to lose weight and I developed a myriad of health issues. For this reason, I have to be very careful with how I approach diet and weightloss. Thus begins my 21 Days before even actually STARTING.

Today is Jan 2nd so the gyms are crowded, Trader Joe's is packed (which I learned the hard way), and it's cold AF in Brooklyn. In the past, these would be reasons for me postpone my weight loss journey and start on Monday when I have more of a plan. NOT TODAY. Today I'm

Here's where I went wrong:

  • I decided to try to make one of those sheet pan meals but didn't have the ingredients
  • I went to the store to buy workout clothes after everyone picked over them
  • I went to Target to buy new toothpaste at the same time everyone else went to Target to buy toothpaste
  • I ate like a 2 year old the entire day - a buttered roll, half bowl of pasta, one spoonful of ice cream, several handfuls of popcorn, one cookie

My problem isn't overeating, it's WHAT I eat and when I eat it. But eh, I'll figure that part out.

Another thing that went wrong: the at home workout I was planning to do would not load. i tried for like 15 minutes before I remembered that POPsugar has a YouTube page filled with cool workouts for beginners.

I immediately found THIS 10 minute warm-up and THIS low impact 15 minute cardio workout. I put on my daggone gym clothes and I did it all. And then I cooled down for as long as I needed and even meditated for a bit.

So, thanks for checking out my Negative Twenty One Days
