Book Review: The Diamond of Darkhold by Jeanne DuPrau

The Diamond of Darkhold by Jeanne DuPrau
Yearling, 2008

Library: Bedford Branch
Genre: YA Fiction, Dystopian Fiction

In this final book of Ember, the people of Sparks are experiencing the last few weeks of a difficult Winter. When a roamer comes into town, Lina and Doon acquire a book with instructions for a machine located in the caves a Ember. Doon convinces Lina to go with him to discover what the machine may be.

I really liked this book. I read it directly after The Prophet of Yonwood, which I hated. So it was really nice to continue where we left off in The People of Sparks. This book moved pretty quickly and it was hard to put down. I definitely enjoy DuPrau's imaginative story but not so much her writing style. Much of her humor falls flat and the pictures she paints aren't dazzling by any means. Nonetheless, this was a good finish to the very cool dystopian/post apocalyptic story. I suggest the series but it doesn't need to go to the top of your reading list.

  1. I didn't realize there was another book out in this serious. I might have to check it out some time!
